Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Father Phillip Bempong will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Cheryl Lynn Ringer passed away on August 24th at Accura Healthcare of Creston. Born on September 24, 1947 in Hayward, CA, Cheryl’s life was marked by devotion to her family and legacy of friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Pauline Payton (Christensen) and her husband Lloyd Andrew Ringer. Her memory will be treasured by her children: Daniel (Pamela)Ringer of Creston, IA, James Ringer (Carol) of Littleton, CO and Kevin Ringer of Afton, IA. She was a proud grandmother to Calvin (Kyrianna), Jake, Korbyn and Kohl Ringer. She is also survived by her brother Gary (Nancy) Payton and her extended family, brother-in-law Michael Ringer (Emily), cousins Cheryl (Louie) Swanson. She is cherished by many nephews and nieces, their families and her many friends.
Cheryl and Lloyd married at the Chapel of the Bells, in Santa Cruz, California on August 20, 1967. They were married for 52 years before Lloyd’s passing in 2019. Cheryl worked as a hospital cook at Greenfield Hospital, retiring after 23 years.
Cheryl’s heart of gold sustained her through the 2024 tornado. She lost everything, except her life and her cat, Penny. And yet, she handled it with dignity and grace, rebuilding a new home and finding the strength to be “Greenfield Strong”. She loved her family and friends and she loved the community that shared her family roots.
After retirement, Cheryl spent her time traveling to Colorado and Oregon, Building and enjoying her new home and spending time with family. Cheryl’s sweet nature and willingness to laugh will be missed by all of us.
