(Atlantic) Atlantic’s girls tennis team turned in a dominant performance Thursday, defeating Glenwood 8-1 in team competition. The Trojans won their fifth straight match, extending their record to 6-1 on the season.
The Trojans controlled the match from the opening singles contests, winning five of six singles matches before sweeping all three doubles matches.
In singles play, Glenwood’s Kara Gideon earned the lone win for the Rams, defeating Atlantic’s Jacobi Harter, 8-2.
Atlantic responded with five straight victories.
Lily Willrich defeated Glenwood’s Ady Thiesen, 8-6, while Dylin Ball cruised past Payton Stewart, 8-0. Taryn O’Brien also recorded an 8-0 shutout over Sophia Stroud.
Hope Hammontree added an 8-1 victory over Kendyl Pontefract, and Sophie Rose closed out singles play with an 8-4 win against Adah Davis. Hammontree remains undefeated.
Atlantic carried its momentum into doubles competition, sweeping all three matches.
Willrich and Harter teamed up to defeat Gideon and Thiesen, 8-3. Ball and O’Brien followed with an 8-1 victory over Stewart and Stroud. Ball and O’Brien are undefeated in doubles.
Hammontree and Rose completed the doubles sweep, defeating Pontefract and Davis, 8-2.
