Day Five Attendance Sets Another Record at the Iowa State Fair
(Des Moines, IA) — Attendance at the Iowa State Fair set a record for the second day in a row. More than 111-thousand people visited the fair on Monday, setting a new record for day five and seeing almost four-thousand more people than the same day last year. This comes after Sunday’s attendance also set a single-day record for day four of the Iowa State Fair.
Report: Six Out Of 10 Des Moines Millennials Are Homeowners
(Des Moines, IA) — A new report finds more than half of Millennials in Des Moines are homeowners. Rent Cafe recently surveyed over 100 cities nationwide, tracking where Millennials are buying and renting. The survey found six in 10 Millennials in Des Moines are homeowners, the eighth-highest on the list. Millennial home ownership in Des Moines grew more than 13-percent from 2018 to 2023. Des Moines also saw the slowest price increases in the Midwest and the second-highest job growth.
44th Annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show Breaks Records With $572K In Donations
(Des Moines, IA) — Donations made at the 44th Annual Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show have broken a record. The event featured youth exhibitors and local celebrities who showed 25 sponsored steers, along with a live auction at the end of the show. This year, there were more than 572-thousand-dollars in donations, the most made in any year. The money will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa City and Sioux City. The event has raised more than six-point-five-million dollars since the first show in 1983.
Cedar Rapids Man Arrested In Newton Police Child Exploitation Sting
(Newton, IA) — A Cedar Rapids man is under arrest following a sting by Newton Police and is facing multiple charges. The Newton Police Department says officers were posing as a 15-year-old when they were communicating online with the suspect, 61-year-old Scott Bader. Investigators say Bader solicited the child, who was actually an officer, to engage in sexual acts and asked them to send naked photos. Law enforcement used data, including an IP address from the online messaging account, to identify and arrest Bader, who was working as a high school bowling coach in Cedar Rapids.
