(Stuart) A woman was killed, and an Iowa State Patrol trooper was injured Tuesday afternoon after a shooting in Stuart, according to authorities.
The incident was reported around 3:35 p.m. in the 200 block of SW 6th Street, when Adair County dispatch received a call about shots fired, said Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Adam DeCamp.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. DeCamp said an Iowa State Patrol trooper was among the first to arrive and made contact with an armed man. The man then shot the trooper, according to DeCamp.
The shooter was taken into custody without further incident. Officers at the scene provided aid to the injured trooper, who was later transported by ground ambulance to a hospital in Des Moines.DeCamp said the trooper’s medical condition was not known Tuesday afternoon.
After the trooper was shot, officers located a deceased woman at the scene. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, DeCamp said.
The names of the people involved have not been released.
The Iowa DCI is assisting the Stuart Police Department with the investigation.
