(Anita, IA) — AHSTW’s Camdyn Dresen allowed just two hits in six innings of work as the Vikings blanked Audubon 6-0 and advanced to the District Semifinals in Class 1A, Substate 8.
The Vikes gave him plenty of run support, scoring twice in the first inning, 3 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd. Dresen did give up two walks in the top of the 6th inning but struck out the final two hitters he faced and Kip Lamp pitched the final inning to complete a 4 hit shutout.
AHSTW got things going against Audubon starter Dawson Miller when Chase Wheatley got a leadoff walk. After Ty Nelson grounded out, Cash Freeman hammered a double to left to score Wheatley and Freeman later scored on a double steal to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Taylen Hansen got a leadoff walk, Kooper Krummel was hit by a pitch and after Calvin Parker struck out, Miller hit Lamp with a pitch to load the bases. Wheatley then drove a pitch for a 2 run double and while he was in a rundown, Lamp came in to score to make it 5-0 Vikings.
AHSTW got another run in the third with Dresen on third base, Miller was ruled to commit a balk to bring the 6th run home.
Audubon got a two single from Dawson Miller in the first inning; Kodi Lansman got a 2 out infield single in the 4th. In the top of the 7th, Lamp gave up a 2 out single to Collin Nelson and Brody Schultes smacked a double to left but Lamp got a strike out to end the game.
With the win, AHSTW advances to the District Semifinals and will play CAM on Tuesday, July 7; coverage on KSOM.
