(Corning) The Southwest Valley Timberwolves bounced back into the win column Monday night with a 15-4 victory over Lamoni on the road.
The Timberwolves overcame a rough start after surrendering all four of Lamoni’s runs in the first inning. Southwest Valley settled in from there, holding Lamoni scoreless the rest of the way while the offense erupted for 15 runs.
Casey Jones earned the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings. Jones allowed just one earned run, struck out one batter, and also contributed at the plate with a hit and an RBI.
Southwest Valley’s offense was led by Gavin Wetzel, who collected four hits and drove in a run. Brody Crozier added three hits and three RBIs, while Walker Bissell turned in a big night with three hits, including a triple, and five RBIs. Caleb Owen finished with two hits and two RBIs. Ethan Johnston added a hit and an RBI, while Hudson Bissell recorded a hit.
Southwest Valley Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh said the team responded well after the difficult opening inning.
“It was a big night to get back in the win column. We had a pretty rough first inning, allowing all four of their runs. Luckily, Casey started locating better spots, and our defense cleaned up for the most part. Offensively, we had a hit parade, and guys stayed disciplined at the plate. Glad to see a W for the boys going into a big conference game tomorrow night.”
