(Lewis) Recently, DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen looked up some Father’s Day fun facts and was disappointed to learn that, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the most popular Father’s Day gift has nothing to do with fishing.
Appearing on this week’s DNR Report, Lorenzen noted that while National Go Fishing Day was celebrated Thursday, every day can be a fishing day. He says Father’s Day provides the perfect opportunity for families to spend time together on the water.
Lorenzen also offered some advice for last-minute shoppers. If you find yourself browsing the men’s clothing section looking for a Father’s Day gift, he suggests considering something Dad can use on his next fishing trip instead.
Many anglers say their favorite Father’s Day gift isn’t new gear at all—it’s spending a few uninterrupted hours fishing with family. Across fishing communities, stories often center on first catches, parent-child outings, and family traditions passed down from one generation to the next.
