(Oakland, IA) — Class 1A #4 Exira EHK/Audubon will visit Class 2A #10 Riverside in a Western Iowa Conference showdown tonight, coverage on KSOM.
The Bulldogs are 9-4, 8-2 in the conference. At one point, Riverside was 3-4 with all four losses to ranked teams but they have now won 6 in a row including beating Class 1A #5 Logan Magnolia 5-3 last night. Head Coach Darrell Frain got three home runs against the Panthers — Peyton Schafer went yard plus #8 hitter Braelyn Schnack and #9 hitter Kayci Perkins. That makes Riverside even more dangerous when the bottom of the line up is hitting dingers says Frain
Right now Senior Madison Kelley is hitting .515, 3 HR, 16 RBI; Senior Adaline Martens is hitting .488, 1 HR, 14 RBI; Junior Sophia Fenner .425 with 5 RBI; Junior Kayden Schnack .452, 1 HR, 11 RBI; Frain says everybody is swinging the bats
They will need to heat up the metal tonight because Riley Miller threw a two hit shutout against the Bulldogs on June 1st in a 2-0 win. Frain says they gotta lay off the high ones
The Spartans are 10-2, 9-2 in the conference and are coming off a 6-4 win last night over Tri Center. Taryn Petersen started the game and gave up 4 runs but none of them were earned. Head Coach Tom Petersen was not satisfied with his defense
Miller came in and did not allow a base runner — five innings, zero walks, zero hits, 8 strikeouts. She has a 1.11 ERA with 91 strikeouts. Petersen knows that the Bulldogs will likely get more than two hits tonight
Riverside’s pitcher Peyton Schafer has a 2.86 ERA for the season — against the Spartans she allowed 2 runs, only one earned on five hits. Petersen says they will have to play solid defense behind Miller and find a way to hit Schafer
