(Dubuque, IA) — The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to check their cash after several fake 20-dollar bills were found this month. The fake bills were primarily used in social media and online marketplace purchases.
Deputies say the bills look like real money but are marked “For Motion Picture Purposes” and say “In Props We Trust” on the back. At least two of the bills were used in sales before people realized they were fake.
Deputies are investigating how the bills got into circulation. Residents are urged to inspect cash during transactions and not rush through the process.
