(Griswold, IA) — The Griswold School Board met on Monday night and found they need to replace some tile that has small amounts of asbestos. The initial test for the tile came out negative in June 2024 but the test was questioned so it was re-tested and came back positive. Superintendent Dave Henrichs says they went through a third test which brought more specific results
The abatement process will start at the end of the month and the new flooring will be in place by the end of July.
The Board also reviewed three bids on fuel but Henrichs says they will need the bids to be resent
School lunch prices were also set with a slight increase of 50 cents.
The school board also authorized the purchase of 100 laptops for student use — the cost was $38,800 and a REAP grant will be used to fund the majority of the cost.
Henrichs also says there are still two positions that need to be filled before the new school year — an elementary teaching position and a high school science teacher.
Finally, the school also made their 2027 legislative priorities for the Iowa Association School Board which are teaching development and retention, school funding, teacher recruitment and local accountability and decision making.
