(Red Oak, IA) — Things got heated at the Montgomery County Supervisors meeting on Tuesday as they debated adding a new part time position to help in the auditor’s office. County Auditor Jill Ozuna outlined the duties that a new employee would do and would not exceed 30 hours a week
Ozuna made two proposals for the supervisors to consider — hiring a director or a clerk. Supervisor Alex Burton pushed back saying he would like to wait and consider other possibilities
Burton and Chair Charla Schmid both volunteered to talk to other counties to see what their staffing issues are. Ozuna mentioned that many of the supervisors have mentioned the hours she has worked and that is when it got heated between both Ozuna and Burton
Ultimately, everybody calmed down. County Treasurer Jackie Porter mentioned that a new employee could be beneficial to her department. Earlier in the meeting, there were two county residents who expressed their concerns about hiring someone new like Jan Norris from West Township
In the end, the Supervisors agreed to table the decision for two weeks and promised to explore all the available options.
