(Washington, D.C.)The 16th Annual Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Day took place this week in Washington, D.C., giving current and former foster youth an opportunity to share their personal experiences with members of Congress and advocate for policies affecting children in foster care.
Representative Zach Nunn of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District spoke with KSOM/KS95 News about the importance of the event and hearing directly from young people who have experienced the foster care system firsthand.
Nunn said the issue is very personal to him…
Nunn recently introduced the HOME for Foster Youth Act.
Nunn said the bill is a good, common-sense measure moving forward. Although lawmakers have not taken a party-line vote on the legislation, he said they want to ensure there is a path to success that will help foster youth as they transition into adulthood.
