(Neola, IA) — Tri Center will face rival Underwood in a Western Iowa Conference baseball game tonight with coverage on KSOM. One of the leaders for the Trojans is Senior Catcher Tristin Gunderson who has been a solid leader for the team.
Gunderson has been a steady presence for Tri Center baseball ever since he became a starter his freshman year. He is a career .338 hitter and is already hitting .375 to start this year and the Trojans have been a winning team with 74 victories in the last four seasons.
Gunderson has not only been productive at the plate but behind it as well — a catcher is in position to see the entire field and is kind of like the team’s quarterback and Gunderson likes that leadership role
Gunderson became a fan of baseball early and has a strong memory of first learning the fundamentals of sliding
His Aunt is Cael Witt’s Mom — Witt is Tri Center’s ace and along with Gunderson, one of its best hitters. The two cousins have grown up together and that relationship has translated to success when Witt is pitching and Gunderson is catching
Gunderson was supposed to play football this past fall but he came down with a blood clot in his arm and had to go on blood thinners for several months and he admits he still recovering but has been cleared to play baseball. The seniors on Tri Center include Witt, Brody Wiedner, Trenton Huebner, Braden Meyer and Gunderson and he says they are all ready to have a great summer
Tonight is a match up against rival Underwood who has had the Trojans number recently and Gunderson knows it will be a big game
Tri Center is 4-1, Underwood is 4-0, game time tonight is at 7:30 pm, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM; audio only at westerniowatoday.com
