Jaylee Shaffer of Mount Ayr leads the Class 1A Girls State Golf Tournament after the first round. Shaffer shot a (-2) 70 and has a four stroke lead over Addie Fier of Easton Valley. Shaffer was (+2) on the front nine with two birdies, two bogeys and a double but shot a sizzling (-4) on the back nine with four birdies and five pars. Despite Shaffer’s round, the Raiderettes are last in the team standings.
Cameron Way of Tri Center shot an 88 on day one with a 47 on the front nine which included a 9 on one hole but also a birdie 2 on hole #7. The back nine was a 41 with five bogeys and four pars. Way is currently tied for 18th.
Alyssa Dowling of Sidney shot a first round 89 and is tied for 22nd.
In Class 2A, Kuemper Catholic is in 8th place in the team standings — low round for the Knights is Addy Beiter with an 88; Elsa Tiefenthaler shot a 93; Giada Lujano 96; Brooklyn Lahr 103; Addison Tigges 104; and Adalyn Pieting 112.
Clarinda’s Taylor Rasmussen is in 10th place with a (+9) 80 — Rasmussen had two birdies and 8 bogeys; Addy Weinrich shot an 88 and is in 26th place.
In Class 4A, Chloe Perfect of Lewis Central shot an 82 and is in 24th place; Cathrine Perfect of LC shot an 87 and is in 35th.
