Council Bluffs Man Sentenced After Cold Case Conviction
(Council Bluffs, IA) — The man convicted in the first case investigated by the Iowa Cold Case Unit that led to a conviction has been sentenced. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office says Robert Davis of Council Bluffs has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of Barbara Lenz, who disappeared from Harrison County in 1989. An investigation by the Iowa Cold Case Unit led to Davis’ arrest on March 20th of 2025. Davis was convicted of second-degree murder.
US, Iowa Flags At Half-Staff For Memorial Day
(Des Moines, IA) — U.S. and Iowa state flags will be at half-staff this morning in recognition of Memorial Day. The order was issued by Governor Kim Reynolds, and specifically mentions four Iowa National Guard soldiers who were killed in action in the Middle East over the past year. Staff Sergeants William Nathanial Howard and Edgar Torres-Tovar were killed in December in Syria, and Army Reserve soldiers Major Jeffrey O’Brien and Sergeant Declan Coady were killed in Kuwait in March. Flags will be at half-staff from sunrise until noon.
Disaster Proclamation Issues For Five Counties
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for five Iowa counties hit by severe storms earlier this month. The proclamation covers Cherokee, Clay, Kossuth [[ kuh-SOOTH ]], Montgomery, and Ringgold counties and allows state resources, including the Disaster Case Advocacy Program and the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, to be used for recovery efforts. The proclamation will remain in effect for 30 days unless terminated early or extended.
Armed Robbery Suspect Shot, In Critical Condition In Des Moines
(Des Moines, IA) — A teen is in critical condition after being shot during an armed robbery in downtown Des Moines. Police say the injured 17-year old was one of several people who robbed a man sitting in his parked car near the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. Gunfire was exchanged and the robbery suspect was shot by the 22-year old victim. The Polk County Attorney’s Office is not pursuing charges against the robbery victim, who has been released from custody.
Six More Beagles Are Ready For Adoption At The ARL Of Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) — Six more beagles rescued from Ridglan Farms are now ready for adoption at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. The ARL says the dogs, ranging in age from one to three years old, have just become available for adoption. Officials say the beagles have had very little exposure to typical household environments, so they’re looking for potential adopters who can provide calm, predictable homes and plenty of patience. So far, eleven of the 40 rescued beagles have already been adopted.
