(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation on Tuesday designating this week, May 17-23, as EMS Week.
The proclamation, read by Board Chair Brian Shea, states that Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service that plays a critical role in protecting the health, safety, and well-being of residents and visitors throughout Pottawattamie County.
EMS professionals are often the first point of medical care for residents during emergencies, severe weather events, traffic accidents, public health incidents and other critical situations. The EMS system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, educators, administrators, nurses, physicians, trained members of the public and other out-of-hospital medical care providers who work together to serve the community.
The national theme for EMS Week is Improving Outcomes Together. The board encourages all residents to observe this week and honor EMS professionals and the essential service provided to our communities.
