(Des Moines) The National Weather Service says a weather pattern is forecast to set up from Friday through Monday, with chances for severe thunderstorms at times each day.
On Friday, thunderstorm chances will be highest from the evening to overnight hours across central and southern Iowa, with the primary severe weather threats being large hail and damaging winds.
From Saturday through Monday, the severe thunderstorm threat will generally increase and become more widespread each day. However, the details of timing, location, and hazard types will be better determined in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move across about the northern half of Iowa this afternoon and evening. Severe weather is unlikely in that area.
Additional thunderstorms will then move through far southern Iowa after dark tonight. A few of those storms could be strong to severe, with hail and gusty winds the primary threats.
