(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation recognizing May 6–12, 2026, as National Nurses Week, honoring the critical role nurses play in the healthcare system.
The proclamation notes that nurses represent the nation’s largest healthcare profession and are essential in meeting the diverse and evolving needs of the American population. From hospitals to community settings and the front lines of public health, nurses provide care across a wide range of environments.
County officials also acknowledged the growing demand for qualified nurses as healthcare needs become increasingly complex. The proclamation emphasizes that more highly trained nursing professionals will be necessary to meet those challenges in the years ahead.
In recognition of National Nurses Week, and in partnership with the American Nurses Association, the county highlighted this year’s theme, “The Power of Nurses.”
Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen read the proclamation.
The Pottawattamie County Courthouse, along with buildings and landmarks across the county, will be lit red for National Nurses Week in support of the nurses Light up the Sky initiative.
