(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation this morning recognizing May as Mental Health Awareness Month.
Grace McAfee, with the Cass County Coalition for Mental Wellness, said the group has organized several initiatives across Cass County to raise awareness and help end the stigma surrounding mental health.
In short, the proclamation states that all Americans face stress and challenges, and that prevention and proven tools can help reduce the impact of mental health conditions. Officials also highlighted that mental health conditions are common but treatable, and that early, effective care can help individuals lead full and productive lives.
The board is encouraging residents, businesses, schools, government agencies, and healthcare providers across Cass County to increase awareness, support prevention efforts, and improve access to mental health services.
As a reminder, a Mental Health Awareness event will be held in the Iowa Western parking lot on Wednesday, May 13, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event will feature mental health resources, food, vendors, and community booths, as well as interactive wellness activities, stress-reduction demonstrations, and giveaways.
