(Iowa City, IA) — The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball picked up another experienced guard for the 2026–27 season, as Amari Whiting announced on Instagram her transfer to Iowa from Oklahoma State.
Whiting, a 5-foot-10 guard, began her collegiate career at BYU Cougars women’s basketball before spending last season with the Cowgirls. During her time with OSU, she averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game while posting career-best shooting numbers, including 42.5% from the field and 32.1% from three-point range.
She enters the Hawkeyes program with one season of eligibility remaining and is currently the only senior on Iowa’s 2026–27 roster.
Known for her consistency on the glass, Whiting has been a strong rebounder throughout her career. Had she been on Iowa’s roster this past season, she would have ranked third on the team behind Hannah Stuelke and Ava Heiden. She has also started every game of her collegiate career, giving head coach Jan Jensen added flexibility in the backcourt alongside point guard Chit-Chat Wright and fellow transfer Dani Carnegie from Georgia.
A native of Burley, Whiting was the 2022 Idaho High School Player of the Year. She also earned MVP honors at the state tournament, leading Burley High School to a state championship that same season.
