(Atlantic) Earlier today (Wednesday, April 15), the Cass County Communications Center received a report of an unknown individual outside Schuler Elementary who appeared to be attempting to gain access to the building.
Atlantic Police Officers responded and conducted an investigation. They determined the individual was a middle school student who had left their building, changed their clothing, and attempted to reenter Schuler Elementary. The individual did not gain access and left the area before officers arrived.
The student was later located during dismissal, and the situation has been addressed. At this time, there is no indication that any threat was made toward staff or students.
As a precaution, officers remained in the area of the Middle School, Schuler Elementary, and Washington Elementary during dismissal.
The Atlantic Police Department worked with the Atlantic Community School District during the investigation and received assistance from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
