(Cass Co) Cass County Veterans Affairs Executive Director Mitch Holmes has announced his retirement.
Holmes shared the news with the Cass County Board of Supervisors during a meeting this (Tuesday) morning. He has served as the county’s Veterans Affairs Executive Director for 18 years. His retirement will take effect July 1.
Members of the Board of Supervisors thanked Holmes for his many years of service.
Holmes said they will begin advertising for the position soon.
In Iowa, a County Veterans Affairs Director assists veterans, their spouses, and dependents in securing federal, state, and local benefits. The role includes helping individuals file, track, and appeal VA claims, as well as connecting them to compensation, pensions, healthcare, and education benefits. The director also manages county-level emergency assistance funds and helps facilitate burial benefits.
