(Washington D.C.) The Pentagon on Wednesday released the names of the final two U.S. Army Reserve soldiers killed in a drone strike in Kuwait.
Military officials identified them as Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45, of Waukee, Iowa, and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert Marzan, 54, of Sacramento, California.
According to the Department of Defense, Marzan’s remains have not yet been positively identified, but he is believed to be the sixth casualty from the strike at Port Shuaiba. The Pentagon said Marzan was at the scene when a drone struck a command center and is believed to be the individual who died there. A medical examiner will confirm the identification.
Both soldiers were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command out of Des Moines. O’Brien commissioned in the Army Reserve as a signal corps officer in 2012 and previously deployed to Kuwait in 2019. His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device.
The Department of Defense on Tuesday identified four other soldiers killed in the attack as Sgt. Declan J. Coady, 20, of West Des Moines; Capt. Cody A. Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida; Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska.
The Army Reserve soldiers were killed Sunday when a drone struck a command center in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait. The attack came one day after the United States and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, which responded with retaliatory strikes. Sgt. Declan J. Coady and three others assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command in Des Moines were identified Tuesday afternoon.
