(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors has approved the amount of funding the county will receive to continue providing law enforcement services to the City of Villisca.
Under the agreement approved Tuesday, the City of Villisca will pay the county $45,000 per year for the next two years. That figure represents a significant decrease from the $94,600 the city had previously been paying for those services.
During the meeting, County Supervisor Mike Olson asked Villisca City Councilman Tripp Narup whether the reduced payment would mean a cut in services. Narup explained that the lower amount reflects the city’s budget challenges. He said the city clerk informed the council that spending reductions were necessary.
Narup also noted that Sheriff Spunaugle provides the city with a monthly report detailing all calls for service and the time spent on each.
Although the supervisors agreed on the funding amount, the contract has not yet been formally filed. The proposed language is based on sample agreements from the League of Cities and neighboring counties.
The Villisca City Council is not scheduled to meet until next month and still needs to finalize specific contract language.
