(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is holding public meetings across the state to recap hunting and trapping seasons and to discuss possible rule changes.
John Lorenzen, a fisheries biologist with the DNR Office in Lewis, says these meetings are held annually and include local staff providing updates on last year’s hunting seasons.
Lorenzen says comments received during previous meetings like this have led to regulatory changes.
Lorenzen says, for example, the feedback included modifying and removing areas closed to Canada goose hunting, establishing later goose season dates and increased bag limit, expanding the raccoon hunting and trapping season on private ground, modifying the antlerless deer quotas in parts of Iowa, and extending the regular trapping season through the end of February.
The closest meetings in southwest Iowa are in Council Bluffs on March 5, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Bass Pro Shops, and Creston on March 3, at 6:00 p.m., at the Performing Arts Building multi-purpose room (124), 1201 West Townline Street.
