(Council Bluffs) A District Court Judge has ruled to remove Pottawattamie County Supervisor Scott Belt from Office.
According to court documents, Belt attended a public meeting after witnesses saw him drinking at a bar in Carson. Belt left the bar and attended a public meeting where he, allegedly, struggled to speak clearly while leading the Pledge of Allegiance, appearing unsteady and tripping over a chair.
On November 14, Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber filed a petition for removal.
Wilber tells KSOM/KS95 News that under Iowa law, a removal trial must be set within 10 to 20 days after the petition is filed. The trial was held on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
Wilber says Scott Belt will have the right to appeal, and at this point, there will be a vacancy on the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors.
Meanwhile, Pottawattamie County is looking to fill a seat on the Board of Supervisors and is inviting residents to apply for consideration. Applicants must submit a letter of interest outlining relevant qualifications, leadership capabilities, public service, and interest in the position. Letters of Intent can be submitted online via email or delivered in person to the Pottawattamie County Courthouse by 4:30 p.m. on December 12.
