(Creston) Creston Police reported that a driver traveling too fast for the conditions was cited after a Friday night crash. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m., when 27-year-old Elijah Blue Hoyt, of Creston, was heading westbound downhill on Irving Street in a 1997 GMC pickup. At the same time, 43-year-old Joshua Eric Smith, also of Creston, was driving a 2020 Ford Edge northbound uphill on Elm Street.
According to authorities, Hoyt was unable to stop at the posted intersection due to weather conditions and collided with the Ford Edge, striking the SUV on the rear door. The impact caused Smith’s vehicle to spin and come to rest on a curb. Hoyt’s pickup continued forward and hit an Alliant Energy light pole, resulting in approximately $100 in damage to the pole. The pickup itself was not damaged.
The Ford Edge sustained an estimated $7,000 in damage and was deemed a total loss. Hoyt was cited for failure to provide proof of accident-related insurance and for failing to maintain a reasonable and proper speed.
