(Denison) Atlantic travels to Denison tonight for a Hawkeye Ten Conference girls’ opener. This is the Monarchs’ season opener. Atlantic played Treynor in their opening game on Friday. The Cardinals topped the Trojans 51-31.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says it took the offense one half of play to kick into gear. On the positive side, they played much better offensively in the second half.
Coach Vargason says the defensive effort was there, holding second-rated Treynor to 51 points. However, he says there are still some things to clean up.
Coach Vargason says it was not a devastating loss. The team goals are still intact.
Coach Vargason says Denison-Schleswig will be a different team, with many players having graduated. He says the only returning player is Lola Mendlik, the Monarchs’ second leading scorer (5.17 ppg) from one year ago.
Coach Vargason says the goal this week is to play aggressively, make improvements on offense, and get to the free-throw line.
We will have the broadcast on 95.7 FM and live-streamed on westerniowatoday.com TV and YouTube.
