(Avoca) The Regional Water system remains under Alert Level Red as officials continue urging all customers to conserve water and avoid non-essential use, including filling private pools.
Water pressure remains adequate throughout the system’s towers, but officials say the main tower dropped to a dangerously low level during the early evening hours on July 2. The system is currently pumping 770 gallons per minute from the Avoca treatment plant, with 22 wells supplying water to meet ongoing demand.
Thanks to conservation efforts, pressure has held steady, but officials stress the importance of continued vigilance. Residents are encouraged to report any low pressure or suspected leaks to Regional Water immediately by calling 712-343-2413.
Progress has been made in stabilizing parts of the system. A successful connection to Council Bluffs was established yesterday, and Regional Water staff are now working with DGR Engineering to properly dose water being sent to Tower 5, which serves the southwest portion of the system. Expanding water access to other areas is ongoing and will take time, as chlorine levels must be closely monitored across the distribution system.
Customers can stay informed by visiting the system operations dashboard at rwrwa.org, also available through county and municipal websites.
The alert and water use restrictions apply to all customers and communities served by the Avoca Treatment Plant, including Avoca, Brayton, Exira, Kirkman, Westphalia, Earling, Panama, Portsmouth, Persia, and Tennant.
Regional Water thanks everyone for their continued cooperation and support.
