(Des Moines) Iowa drivers are seeing a modest uptick at the pump this week even as crude-oil prices drift lower on global markets, according to the latest Weekly Fuel Report.
AAA reports that the statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline climbed 2 cents to $2.95 a gallon, ending a month-long streak of steady prices. Although the bump is slight, today’s average remains 32 cents below where it stood a year ago.
Nationally, regular unleaded slipped 2 cents to $3.16, keeping Iowa’s motorists 21 cents under the U.S. average.
Diesel moved the opposite direction. Retail diesel in Iowa slid 2 cents to $3.32 a gallon, widening the gap with the national diesel average of $3.54. A year ago, Iowa diesel cost $3.58.
Natural-gas prices at the Henry Hub gained 24 cents to $3.62 per MMBtu. Retail heating-oil and propane surveys will resume in October, when demand typically rises.
