(Audubon Co) In response to ongoing water service disruptions, Audubon County Emergency Management has scheduled three water distribution sites for today, May 16, to assist residents affected by outages or critically low water pressure.
Eligible households can pick up water at the following locations:
-Audubon Fire Station, 113 Market St., Audubon
-Brayton City Building, 206 South St., Brayton
-Exira City Maintenance Building, 110 East Washington Street in Exira
Distribution will occur per household, not per individual, and recipients must meet specific eligibility requirements:
-The affected property must currently have water pressure too low to allow usage, be located in an outage area, or have recently experienced an outage.
-Residents must live in Brayton, Exira, or elsewhere in Audubon County and be connected to the Regional Water Rural Water Association’s system.
-Water will not be distributed solely due to a boil advisory if adequate pressure and water are available at the residence.
Residents must provide proof of residence to receive water. Acceptable documentation includes a valid Iowa driver’s license, ID card, or utility bill showing the affected address.
Exira City Clerk Meg Andersen passed along some good news following the daily briefing from Emergency Management Directors from the affected counties. Andersen says Regional Water added two feet to the towers over the past 24 hours. Unfortunately, one tower is not maintaining pressure, prohibiting the start-up of bacterial testing to lift the boil order.
Andersen credits the improvement in water levels to community members doing their part to conserve water.
