(Atlantic) The Atlantic wrestling team featured five first-year students who earned varsity letters this past season. We have covered the three seniors, three juniors, and six sophomores letterwinners. Today is the final story in the series with Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff.
Landon Hagen went 29-18 on the varsity level. Hagen finished third place at the district meet, shy of attending the state tournament.
Coach Duff says another freshman, Callan Kluever, came out for wrestling this season without much experience.
Coach Duff says another freshman earning a varsity letter is Keaton Schroeder, who wrestles at 106. Duff says Schroeder had an exceptional year, winning numerous tournaments and finishing his first varsity season with a 42-10 record and 24 pins.
Travin Thomas is the fifth freshman letterwinner—a young wrestler competing at 215 against much older competition. Thomas finished the season with 13 varsity wins and topped that off with seven wins in wrestling junior varsity.
Coach Duff says four other freshmen on the squad got some varsity experience: Jackson Hepler (28-5) on junior varsity, Yzechiel Jimenez (wrestling at 215 and 285), Grayson Molgaard (10-18 on J.V.), and Owen Miller (9-11 on J.V.).
Coach Duff says there is a lot of potential coming back next season. Six wrestlers are returning next season following 40-win seasons, and three others won 30 matches during the 2024-2025 season.
