(Marion, Iowa) The Atlantic boys’ wrestling team secured sixth place out of 15 teams at the Loyd Shaffer Invitational Wrestling Tournament in Marion, Iowa, on Saturday. The Trojans scored a total of 135 points, while Wilton claimed the team title with 203 points. Despite missing two of their top wrestlers, Aiden Smith and Evan Sorensen, the Trojans managed to place in 12 of the 14 weight classes.
Braxton Hass (120), Jayden Harter (150), and Donovan Hedrington, (190), each earned third-place finishes. Hass started the tournament with a first-round bye and dominated his matches on the consolation side, securing two pins and a major decision. Harter also received a first-round bye, followed by a tech fall victory in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he faced the top seed, Nile Sinn, and lost by fall. Harter rebounded impressively in the consolation bracket, winning by fall and then by tech fall. Hedrington, like his teammates, began with a first-round bye and advanced with a tech fall win in the quarterfinals. He faced a tough loss by tech fall in the semifinals but rallied in the consolation rounds, earning two major decision victories to finish strong
Fourth-place honors went to Collin Harris (113), Landon Hagen (126), Carter Hadley (132), and Dreven Smith (157). Kalvin Hayes took fifth place at (144) pounds, while Travin Thomas finished seventh at (215) pounds. D’artagnan Hansen (138), Roland Hinman (165), and Callan Kluever (175) each placed eighth in their respective weight classes.
