(Atlantic) Atlantic junior first baseman Jillian Saathoff has gradually improved her hitting throughout the season.
This past week, Saathoff went 7-9 at the plate in wins over Bishop-Heelan on Monday, a loss to ADM on Tuesday, and a win over Treynor on Wednesday. Saathoff has elevated her batting average to .392 with two regular-season games left on the schedule and a home first-round regional game against Cherokee on Tuesday. Jillian has started in all 34 games for the Trojans. She is 38-97 at the plate with 27 singles, seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 27 RBI. Saathoff’s field percentage is .995 with 193 putouts and just one error.
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann credits Saathoff’s work ethic for her success this season.
Saathoff played a key role in the Trojans’ 20-0 Conference mark. The junior finished second in the league in fielding percentage, first in the conference in putouts, and chances. She also finished tied for second in fewest errors, with 1.
The Trojans wrap up the regular season with a trip to Sioux City, East on Tuesday for a double-header, and host Cherokee in a first-round regional game at Atlantic on Thursday, July 9. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
