Marilyn Joyce Luke, age 84, of Anita, IA, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at her home under hospice care with family by her side.
Marilyn Joyce McDermott was born the daughter of Joyce and Ruby (Goodwin) McDermott on January 1, 1940, in Cass County, near Anita, Ia. She was one of the first babies of the New Year. She grew up attending school in Anita. Marilyn was married to Harley Clayton Luke on May 27th, 1963. She had six children. She was a hard-working woman and, through the years, was employed at The Green Door Diner, Anita Café, The Redwood Steakhouse, and Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Marilyn always made sure that everyone was taken care of. She was well known for her love of scratching lottery tickets. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and taking a special trip to Illinois to see her cousins.
Her survivors include sister Shirley Schmitt of Marne; children Kevin (LuAnn) Myers of Anita, Mark Luke of Anita, Rex (Kerri) Luke of Anita, and Mike (Stacy) Luke of Adair; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by Parents- Joyce & Ruby McDermott; husband- Harley Luke; sister Marjorie Hockom; children Wesley and Debbie.
A family graveside service will occur at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, IA.
A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life with a luncheon will be held from 12 to 2 pm at the Anita Community Building on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
