(Des Moines, IA) – After rainy conditions and a long delay of the relays at the Drake Relays on Friday, many of our local schools were able to get in on the action. Friday was focused more heavily on the sprinting or short-distance events while getting in the remainder of the field events for the high school athletes.
In the girl’s events for our local schools, Jaidyn Sellers of Panorama earned 2nd place in the 100m dash while MOC-Floyd Valley’s Tierney Huss earned first. Marie Dea of Carroll earned fifth in the 800m run. In the 400m dash, Jaidyn Sellers made her name well-known again with a seventh-place finish for Panorama, and Marie Dea of Caroll finished in 14th.
Looking at the relay events for the girl’s, Glenwood finished in 13th in the 4x200m relay while in the first round of the 4x400m relay, the Carroll girls finished in seventh in the first heat.
On the boy’s side, Treynor’s Brady Wallace earned third in the 110m hurdles, CAM’s Jack Follman earned 11th, Lenox’s Gabe Funk earned 18th, Griswold’s Peyton Cook earned 20th, and earning 21st for Underwood was Mason Boothby all in the 110m hurdles in the first round. In the finals, Treynor’s Brady Wallace ended up with fourth overall in the 110m hurdles. For the 800m run, Ryce Reynolds earned 14th for Mount Ayr. For Underwood, Maxwell Tiarks earned eighth in the shot put. ACGC’s Lance Bunde jumped in the high jump, earning 22nd overall. Ryce Reynolds of Mount Ayr was able to earn fifth overall in the 400m dash.
Looking at the relay events, Harlan earned second overall in the 4x200m relay and Ballard came in fifth in the first heat of the 4x400m relay.
