(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars had an impressive last week of girl’s track action with two top-three finishes at both East Union and ACGC. CAM would’ve had a second-place finish officially on the board at ACGC, but since they didn’t have a girl run the mile, they ended up in third behind Audubon. Regardless of that placement, this team continues to defy expectations and will carry that momentum with them into a busy end of the week.
CAM featured a first-place finisher Ruthie Rich who finished first in the 100-meter hurdles at 17.53 while Bailey Lillard finished a close third at 17.62, just milliseconds behind Rich and Southwest Valley’s Sierra Pearson.
The other girls who competed to the top of their level were Kylee Williamson, Courtney Follmann, and Ada Hansen among many others. Williamson ran 13.75 in the 100-meter dash and finished second, Follmann threw 93 feet in the girl’s discus, and Hansen finished second in both the 400-meter hurdles at 1:12.78 and in the 800-meter run at 2:33.55. These three are just a few of the top names that have made CAM successful so far this season.
Today, the Cougars will be traveling to West Central Valley for some tough competition. Head Coach Luke Symonds has continued to preach all season that his girls go out and do their very best in every meet that they run in. It is all about the mental focus that these girls have to prepare for that tough competition.
While the Cougars have a meet today, they also have a meet on Friday for back-to-back competitions. These girls aren’t letting back-to-back competitions get to them as they’re looking to run in every event of the meet today and tomorrow so that they can get some of their best times.
CAM travels to West Central Valley High School tonight to take on local teams ACGC and Panorama with the meet starting at 4:30 p.m.
