(Brooklyn, NY) – At the WNBA Draft, Iowa’s Kate Martin was going to support Caitlin Clark but ended up getting a different outcome. Martin ended up being selected as the 18th overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces.
This season, Martin averaged her career-highs with 13.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Hawkeyes. She was the most consistent player on the floor for Iowa, helping the Hawkeyes in clutch situations on the hardwood. Just looking at her shooting, she is shooting 50.7% from the field, 37% from beyond the arc, and 86.4% from the charity stripe.
Martin said after she was picked, “I’m really happy to be here. I was here to support Caitlin. But, you know, I was hoping to hear my name called and all I wanted was an opportunity and I got it. So I’m really excited.”
She will be joining former Hawkeye Megan Gustafson on the Aces roster alongside multiple talented key pieces including Kelsey Plum who formally had the scoring record that Martin’s teammate, Caitlin Clark, broke this season.
