(Iowa City, IA) – After a more than successful season of wrestling for the Iowa women’s team, of course, we were going to see some awards for these talented athletes. Marylnne Deede and Kylie Welker have been named finalists for the USA Wrestling Women’s College Wrestler of the Year Award. This is just the second year of the award, the highest honor in women’s college wrestling.
Deede finished the season as the NCWWC National Champion at 155 pounds. The senior earned a 14-0 record in her first season at Iowa with six pins and five technical falls. She finished her career with an 86-19 overall record and is a five-time All-American and two-time National Champion.
Walker finished as the NCWWC National Champion at 170 pounds. The sophomore earned a 23-1 record and had 16 tech falls and six pins overall.
These two athletes will represent the Hawkeyes in the 2024 Olympic team trials at Penn State this coming April. The winner of the award will be announced via FloWrestling on Thursday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m.
