(Ames, IA)- The No. 15 Missouri Tigers traveled to No. 5 Iowa State for the final dual in Hilton and featured one of the most hyped up matches of the year with the undefeated wrestlers of ISU’s No. 3 Yonger Bastida vs Mizzou’s No. 5 Zach Elam. The Cyclones never gave the Tigers a chance as they dominated this Big 12 dual by a 41-3 score. Iowa State is now 13-2 on the year and 6-1 in the Big 12. Mizzou drops to 10-4 and 6-3 in the conference.
That highly anticipated matchup between Bastida and Elam at 285lbs would not be the tight match people expected. Bastida would control early with a takedown in the first and never let off for the 13-4 major decision victory. Four other Cyclones picked up bonus point wins including two back-to-back pins from No. 2 David Carr at 165lbs and No. 19 MJ Gaitan at 174lbs. The lone win for Mizzou would be a decision victory at 184lbs by Colton Hawks over No. 11 Will Feldkamp.
ISU wrestling returns to the mats on Saturday, March 9th for Session 1 of the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma starting at 10 am.
