(Creston) The Creston Panthers head into the Class 3A quarterfinals with a (10-0) record and a matchup with (8-2) Webster City. The Lynx advanced with a 27-7 win over Nevada. The Panthers defeated Harlan 35-27.
Creston Head Coach Brian Morrison says they had the ultimate task this past Friday, trying to knock off Harlan twice in one season. He says Harlan had some players return to the lineup after recovering from some injuries midway through the season.
Creston faces a run-heavy Webster City Squad. The Lynx have performed 491 running plays for 3,253 yards and are 12/38 passing for 202 yards.
Coach Morrison says the Lynx have a lot of speed on defense and play a cover zero.
The Webster City defense is tasked to slow down a potent, balanced Creston offense. The Panthers have thrown for 2,523 yards and rushed for 2,117. The game features two outstanding running backs: Brennan Hayes of Creston, who has 1,547 yards, 15 touchdowns, and averages 8.5 yards per carry. Webster City’s Jaxon Cherry has piled up 1,699 yards, 24 touchdowns, and a 7.6-yard per-carry average.
Coach Morrison says they must win first downs and get Webster City in stretches of the game where they are uncomfortable on second and third down. The winner advances to the semifinals at the dome in Cedar Falls on Saturday, November 11.
