(Guthrie Center) ACGC hosts Madrid on Friday in a Class A District Quarterfinal game between two undefeated teams. This is an interesting matchup because it pits two former high school teammates against each other. Chargers Head Coach Cody Matthewson and Madrid Head Coach Brock Hinkel.
It seems ACGC has been playing under the radar most of the season, only to be ranked after their week four win over South Central-Calhoun.
Coach Matthewson says one thing that is prideful for them is they have been flying under the radar. This program has gone 9-2, 7-3, and now 10-0, and have made it far as the quarterfinals in two out of the past three years, and find themselves one game away from the Dome again this season.
The Chargers have a dominant rushing attack with 3,745 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jathan South leads the ball carriers with 1,104 yards, Mike Fuller with 964, and Anthony Solorzano with 956.
Standing in ACGC’s way for a berth to the Dome is an excellent Madrid squad. Coach Matthewson says the Tigers are 10-0 for a reason.
Madrid quarterback Preston Wicker has thrown for 607 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wicker also leads the rushing attack with 1,425 yards and 24 touchdowns. Noah Ramirez has carried the ball 131 times for 843 yards, and Tyler Fuller has 55 carries for 584 yards.
We will have the broadcast on 96.5 F.M. and audio streamed on westerniowatoday.com. The pregame show starts at 6:30 p.m.
