(West Bend) West Bend-Mallard travels to CAM on Friday in the 8-player round of sixteen. The Wolverines are 7-2 and 5-1 in district play, finishing runner-up to Bishop-Garrigan in 8-player District 2.
Head Coach Tyson Wirtz played for West Bend-Mallard during high school under Head Coach Koy Goodchild. Now in its fourth year at the Helm, Coach Wirtz led the Wolverines to qualify for the state playoffs a year ago, losing in the second round to eventual state champion Remsen St. Mary’s. Those seven victories were the most in eight years. Coach Wirtz is bringing back the West Bend-Mallard football culture.
The Wolverines have rushed for 2,615 yards this season. Coach Wirtz gives credit first to his offensive line, complimented by a stable full of ball carriers.
West Bend-Mallard lost two of its first three games and bounced back with six straight wins. The losses were two dome teams, Bishop-Garrigan and Remsen St. Mary’s.
Next up for the Wolverines is CAM. Coach Wirtz says the Cougars are the most athletic team they have faced so far this season.
The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 F.M. and audio-streamed on westerniowatoday.com.
