(Clarinda, IA) – Clarinda ended week three with their first loss of the season to the Treynor Cardinals 34-28. Treynor sparked in the last three minutes of the game to top the Cardinals in the fourth quarter. Head coach Connor Hanafan is looking for his team to finish the entirety of the game in week four.
Noah Harris and Dominique Polsley were the power rushers in the game against Treynor. Harris rushed for 201 yards and notched a touchdown, while also rushing for a big 16-yard game. Polsley rushed for 103 yards and also earned two touchdowns in the game for the Cardinals.
In terms of improvement, Coach Hanafan is looking for his nose guards Matt Olsen and Bryson Harris to be very physical at the line of scrimmage and continue to protect the interior.
Clarinda will be taking on Van Meter, a team that is currently undefeated, sitting at 3-0 overall on the season. The Bulldogs run a balanced offense with the rushing and passing game, something that has impressed teams around the state. The Cardinals are bought in and are ready to come in prepared Friday night.
Van Meter relies heavily on Austin Baumhover as he threw for four touchdowns and 150 yards in their last game against Humboldt. Overall, Baumhover has thrown for 410 yards and nine touchdowns this season. While also looking at the runningback Ben Gordon, he has rushed 460 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Clarinda hosts the home contest against Van Meter at 7:00 p.m. under the lights.
