(Des Moines) Two Iowa schools are returning to a policy letting teachers carry firearms. Spirit Lake and Cherokee Community School Districts say the decision to reverse the policy comes from fear of losing insurance coverage. In a letter to parents, Spirit Lake said the district would face higher rates and higher deductibles and could lose coverage. The district’s insurance provider, EMC, says letting teachers carry in school doesn’t meet “underwriting guidelines,” meaning it’s too much of a financial risk.
