(Atlantic) Hudson McLaren and Tristan Hayes led Atlantic to a 168-178 win over Clarinda in a boys’ golf meet at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club on Thursday. McLaren medaled with a 38, and Hayes carded a 40 for runner-up.
“Today was a grind-it-out day under cold and windy conditions,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “Hudson had a good round today, finished with a nice score, but had a couple of holes that he would have liked to do over again. Tristan worked hard to keep it low today with several putts that hit the lip but didn’t fall.”
Roth Den Beste shot 45, Tate Niklasen carded a 45, Sam Brosam, 48, and Cruz Weaver finished the nine-hole round with a 53.
“Roth had some good holes and some tough holes, Tate played well, he could have been a little better but finished with a good score,” said Den Beste. “Sam wasn’t happy with his round, and Cruz struggled again, and needs to break out of his slump.”
The Atlantic JV fell short of Clarinda by the 5th-hole tie-breaker. Both squads shot 194.
Trevan Hansen led the team with a 40, Chris Keegan, 46, and Jack Muller shot a 50. Braxton Hass carded a 58, William Schroeder, a 63, and Jake Simonton finished with an 81.
“I thought our JV played pretty well. Trevan had a great score that could have helped us on varsity,” said Den Beste. “Chris shot his best score, and Jack had one hole that got him and would have been a great score without the penalty shots. It was good to see Braxton stay in the 50s, and hopefully William and Jake can finish better next match.”
Atlantic travels to Denison on Monday for a tournament.
