(Creston) The Atlantic Boy’s golf team is off to a 2-0 start this season. The Trojans edged Kuemper on Tuesday and picked up a win at Creston on Thursday, 175-212.
Tristan Hayes medaled for Atlantic with a 41, and the runner-up went to Sam Brosam with a 43. Roth Den Beste shot 45, Hudson McLaren, Cruz Weaver 46, and Trevan Hansen scored 54.
“We knew this would be a good test for us on an away course,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “Creston can be tough to score on, especially on the first three holes. I watched our one and two players struggle to put the ball into play on the first hole. We had ten penalty shots on that hole and will need to clean that up. Both Hudson and Tristan hit one Out of bounds. However, Tristan recovered and finished with a good score.
“Hudson had to work to keep his score of 10 over. Roth started well with a birdie on his first hole. However, two penalty shots on number eight hurt him,” Coach Den Beste said. “His score could have been much better, but he also hit the ball better today. Great to see Sam be runner-up. This is a solid score for him on one of the longer courses we will play. Cruz also had an out-of-bounds on the first hole but put a few good holes together to keep the scores in the mid-40s. Trevan had several holes that hurt him, but good to see him finish strong with a par and bogey. Good team win and will hopefully help us head into next week.”
Atlantic JV 190
Creston JV 252
Tate Niklasen 46
Jack Muller 46
William Schroeder 48
Chris Keegan 50
Braxton Hass 61
Jake Simonton 77
“I thought the JV played well,” said Den Beste. “Tate continued to hit the ball better and score. He struggled with the putter some. Jack had a good round, as well as William. Good to see them in the ’40s. Chris did well also but wants to get his score down as well. Nice also to see Braxton get better and some more experience. Jake also had his best round so far, so hopefully, that continues. JV will have the week off and start back up against Denison.”
