(Atlantic) The #15 Atlantic Trojans Girls’ basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Clarinda 43-24 in Atlantic on Tuesday night. Madison Wagoner scored five points and Jerzee Knight four to lead Clarinda to a 9-7 first-quarter lead.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says they knew Clarinda would be a formidable opponent.
The Trojans turned the table in the second quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 12-7, led by Jada Jensen’s nine points, and the home team led 19-16 at the break. The game was played even in the third quarter, but the difference was the Trojans’ 16-0 finish.
Jensen led Atlantic with 13 points; Maddie Huddleson played a significant role in the Trojans’ fourth-quarter run with 11 second-half points.
Jerzee Knight led the Cardinals with 12-points, Addison Wagoner, 8, and Carson Wellhausen chipped in four. The Cardinals fall to 3-9 on the season and host Sidney on Thursday night.
Atlantic extends its’ record to 9-3 and travels to Harlan on Friday night.
