(Atlantic) Southwest Iowa Planning Council (SWIPCO) announces the completion of four owner-occupied housing rehabilitation Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects in Harlan, Stanton, Villisca, and Walnut. These grants addressed updates to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, windows, doors, siding, roofing, handicap accessibility, and lead based paint, bringing the homes up to Iowa’s minimum housing standards.
The grants assisted 23 low to moderate income families, with a total of $809,093 spent in grant funded repairs.
“These grants are game changers for our residents and communities,” said John McCurdy, Executive Director at SWIPCO. “The value of what these grants bring is that they not only help the individual homeowners by improving the safety and energy efficiency of their homes but help improve the value of all the homes in the community over time.”
“When I found out that I actually had lead paint, it made me feel unsafe for my daughter to be outside by herself as it was on the railings,” said Bailey Foote, a homeowner assisted in Stanton. “The application process was great. The staff at SWIPCO made everything easier. I would tell Mathew and everyone at SWIPCO thank you for this grant. Thanks for being easy to work with. Thanks, from everyone here in Stanton for making our town look better.”
