(Griswold) Griswold boys basketball coach Matt Spunaugle is encouraged by the amount of production that his team has returning from last year.
The Tigers have a pair of seniors with Aiden Kennedy and Kamron Brownlee along with a host of underclassmen that saw varsity playing time a season ago. “Peyton Cook, Bode Wyman, Zane Johnson, and those two seniors. I’m looking for some great things. Last year we won four games and I think we can do considerably better than that this year.”
Griswold met CAM in a scrimmage earlier this week. “We went up to CAM on Monday and we had a big problem with some turnovers so we have a little bit to fix there. Unfortunately the boys got into a position where they started playing the other team’s ball instead of their own ball. We need to slow down and take care of each other and taking care of the team. We’ll be just fine.”
This is coach Spunaugle’s second season at the helm. He’s the 4th coach the program has seen in the last five years. His return brings some stability and means the group got in a full offseason. “I think these guys have come a long way. We played summer league ball up in Harlan and had a lot of open gyms. These guys are really coming together as a team. I think these guys can go real far this year.”
Kamron Brownlee led the team in coring last year at 12.5 points per game. Fellow senior Aiden Kennedy is the 3rd leading returning scorer. Sophomore Peyton Cook averaged 5.3 points per game last season. Griswold’s season opener is December 2nd at home against Heartland Christian. The game will air on KSOM.
